“Dean has done a good job for you with this”. This was in relation to the motor home village described on the Projects page. The client forwarded the comment to Dean and tagged it with “We endorse this comment.” Shortly after this feedback was received, Dean’s client obtained consent for this project in the face of earlier, and apparently strong, opposition from the NZ Transport Agency.

From the Environment Court in the Mulligan case described on the Projects page (and in which traffic was one of two key areas of contention): “We find [Mr Scanlen’s] approach to be satisfactory.” And later in the same decision “We find that the traffic effects are no more than minor.” A court’s finding that “traffic effects are no more than minor” is essentially its approval for the traffic and transport aspects of the proposal.

In relation to the Whangarei District Council Walking & Cycling strategy “We’ve been getting lots of positive feedback. People really like the way you’ve combined the engineering with the soft measures [which included things like vehicle speed reductions]”.

“I’ve been told [Dean is] the best traffic engineer in town.”
