About Dean

Dean is an independent traffic engineer with more than 40 years of experience specialising in traffic engineering, transportation planning, road safety, and transport infrastructure assessment throughout New Zealand.

Dean has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland and is a Chartered Professional Engineer, International (APEC) engineer, a chartered member of Engineers NZ and a long-time member of the Transportation Group of Engineers New Zealand. Dean is generally recognised by councils and regulatory authorities as a suitably qualified and experienced traffic engineer. Over the course of his career, Dean has built extensive expertise across traffic monitoring, impact assessments, safe-system auditing, transport analysis, infrastructure design, and resource consent support for both urban and rural developments.

  • Vehicle tracking and swept path analysis
  • Transport and intersection modelling

Dean also has full access to national crash databases, transport research, and technical standards used by councils and road controlling authorities throughout New Zealand.

He has developed a strong reputation for identifying the key transport issues that genuinely affect a project rather than relying on written codes. His ability to focus on real transport effects and practical outcomes consistently delivers efficient, fit-for-purpose solutions for clients.

Dean regularly attends, and occasionally presents at, industry courses and seminars to remain current with evolving standards, methodologies, transport research, and case law.

As a regular cyclist and advocate for vulnerable road users, Dean also brings a strong understanding of pedestrian, cyclist, and community safety considerations to transport planning and infrastructure design.
